SaaS in Production Scheduling

Software as a service SaaS is a relativelely new acronym. The whole idea is that you pay for your software on a recurring basis instead of paying upfront. These types of systems are also referred to as ASP or application service providers. An ASP can offer real advantage beacuse the system can be expensed and it makes it easier to try a system out and see if it will be better than the scheduling methods you are already using. One of the companies that specializes in SaaS scheduling software is Tuppas. Tuppas offers a wide variety of scheduling systems for manufacturing. We took a look at their systems and they offer quite a variety of different interfaces for different missions.

Production Scheduling Software
Advancements in artificial intelligence have enabled manufacturing organizations to leverage the power of these intelligent scheduling software systems which can take into account numerous constraints.

Tuppas offers systems that are process based as well as systems for job shop, employee scheduling and resource scheduling. They showed us a big collection of highly configured systems. I didn't think that this would be possible. I was sort of expecting a one size fits all approach because of the SaaS approach. But apparently I was wrong. They had quite a few systems that were very different from one another and I could see how they can provide real business advantage to their customers.

Most of the systems offered by Tuppas are browser based so they implement without installing software on the client machine. They call this thin client technology. The really nice thing about thin client is that you can access the system from anywhere. If you planner is out but they have access to the web they can get to the system. Thin client also allows the system to run on just about anything. In addition to accessing the systems from a variety of PCs we were able to get to it from our PDAs and smartphones.
